Member Spotlight: Trish Backlund!
Meet Trish Backlund! Well, you’ve probably met Trish as she’s welcomed you at our events, but you don’t know enough about her. Today that changes, because this week’s Spotlight formally introduces an important member of our team. Trish has launched her own business, Let Trish Plan It, which is exactly what we hope you do - just leave her enough time for BostonYPA.
Let’s Meet Trish!
Did you grow up in Boston? If not, what led you here?
I grew up on the South Shore so I am no stranger to Boston! As I shifted my career to event planning, I knew Boston was where I wanted to set up my business! I love the night life and constant hustle and bustle in the area so it offered me many opportunities for growth in my skills and professional network!
Tell us more about your business - what led you to this focus?
I opened my company, Let Trish Plan It, after working with BYPA as the event coordinator for a few years and realizing that it was something I really enjoy and wanted to pursue doing full time! When I went to a Vocational High School I chose to study culinary arts and hospitality so as you may have predicted, I went to work in a commercial kitchen. My chef hat was short lived as I realized in my first few years of working in restaurants, that I hate working the line and wanted to focus more on the hospitality side of what I learned. I started working in sales for a car dealership and through connections that I made, I was introduced to BYPA and the powers of networking!
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Or a mantra you live by?
The best advice I have heard recently was “What if it could turn out better than you ever imagined?” and it helped me to make the jump into owning my own business!
Is there a specific niche you focus on?
My specialty lies in corporate events (seminars, conferences, company outings, etc) and private parties (birthdays, social gatherings, reunions, religious rites, etc). I find these types of events are great opportunities to showcase my attention to detail and ability to work with many professionals in the workplace!
In the BostonYPA Community!
How did you become involved with BostonYPA? How has this affiliation helped your career?
I learned about BostonYPA from a board member in 2019. I got to attend the After 5 Social at the Boston Tea Party Museum and met so many quality people that I knew I needed to continue networking with this group! BostonYPA has not only built my network but my confidence in speaking with others, my professional skills and even the opportunity to be a business owner!
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
I love that BostonYPA not only has networking opportunities, but social outings as well. It's such a great community and makes you feel included in something bigger than yourself. I cannot wait for this summer's outings!
For those young professionals looking to possibly join, why should they join?
There are so many great reasons to join! To give a few, you meet a lot of local professionals so you end up with more connections as well as finding friends at the same time! You get access to great resources like the job board, resume drop box and are kept up to date with your weekly newsletter! Last but definitely not least, they now have coworking days where I was able to go and work with other like-minded people.
What would you like BYPA professionals to know about your business?
I would like to introduce my company to a larger network and offer my services to the community! I would like to let people know that I am passionate about what I do and I take pride in being extremely detail oriented to ensure customer satisfaction! Bringing your events to the next level is something that brings me joy!
