Title: Principal/Career Coach
Professional Highlights:
Tell us more about your career or company - what led you to this focus?
“Working with people in transition for many years, I recognized the challenges that early to mid career professionals were about to face. I wanted to focus my business targeting that demographic because I knew I could add value to helping them manage and navigate change throughout their careers.”
What advice would you give someone just starting in your industry?
“Find someone who would be willing to mentor/coach you starting with some of the basic principles of the career management field. Secondly, learn how to effectively develop long lasting professional relationships that will help you build your professional network and you are willing to help them when in need.”
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received? Or a mantra you live by?
“There are two that come to mind. The first was when my father gave me the book “How to win friends and influence people” by Dale Carnegie when I was a teenager. He said “honey, honey, honey, if you read this book you will always be successful. The second piece was from my mother who taught me to never go to someone else’s home empty handed and always send a thank you note!”
What's a moment in your career that you’re most proud of?
“Founding an organization, CareerEngage for early career professionals to encourage them to “take charge of their careers” and turning CareerEngage into part of my new business.”
Who are your ideal clients? Where can they find you?
“My ideal client is early to mid career professionals. They can find me on LinkedIn, Instagram and Facebook and my website http://www.jaynemattson.com “
In the BostonYPA Community
When/how did you become involved with BostonYPA? How has this affiliation helped your career?
“I became a member when I founded CareerEngage, a volunteer organization that supported early career professionals in their careers. I knew I needed and wanted to develop a network and build relationships with younger people and BostonYPA was the perfect organization. I reached out to the President of the organization to introduce myself and asked if there was some way we could partner together with me offering a workshop. I was fortunate to present to some of the BostonYPA members, Building Relationships for Career Success, which began a wonderful relationship. Since I am an independent Career Coach with my own business, I have joined as a Business Member.”
What do you enjoy most about being a member?
“Meeting new people and learning what they are doing in their careers and some of their challenges too. “
For those young professionals looking to possibly join, why should they join?
“(BostonYPA) is a great start in building relationships with people of the same age and interests. It gives you a good sense of what early to mid career professionals are doing for work. You can learn about other industries and various roles within them. If and when you need some help or advice in your careers, you will have colleagues to reach out to for guidance. “
What would you like BostonYPA professionals to know about your business?
“There is a Career Coach you can reach out to for help if you are struggling with career related issues that you cannot resolve on your own. It can be any aspect of your career whether you are looking for a new job, need help with interviewing or how to negotiate a salary. I would encourage members to not think of “I don’t like to ask for help.” When I attend the networking events, I am attending to give back not to sell my services. If you like what I have to say, then reach out to me for services. I plan on offering workshops on topics such as “Presenting Yourself with Confidence During Your Job Search”, How to Develop a Powerful Accomplishment Focused Resume” and “Building Relationships for Career Success.” “
