8 More Things to Do During Quarantine

As we enter week 3 of social distancing, we’re bringing you more things to do while quarantined. The theme remains the same - stay inside, stay positive, support local. We’re thrilled to share what BostonYPA members are doing to keep our community close.

1.) Send an Over The Phone Singing Telegram!

We think everyone could use an extra smile right now, and that’s exactly what Surprise Sing intends to supply! This Over-The-Phone Singing Telegram Service is collaborating with the vocalists in all of the Sugarbabies, Inc bands to perform phone serenades to anyone, at anytime, anywhere in the world.

These are challenging times for the world, and the entertainment industry is no exception with social events cancelled and most musicians out of work.  It’s the perfect unique, affordable, fun, and thoughtful gift, especially during these isolated times of quarantines and social distancing - and a great way to help support these innovative young Boston artists (and BostonYPA member!). Save 25% with promo code SUGARBABIES. Send a smile at https://www.surprisesing.com

2.) Become a COVID Tracer

Unemployed? Underemployed? Have some time on your hands and want to help stop the spread of COVID-19? Partners in Health is looking to rapidly hire 1000 COVID tracers. Work from home for $25/hour. More details and how to apply are here.

3.) Hungry? Get Top Chef made meals Delivered @ Home

Tired of looking in your fridge to see if there is something new? How does meals prepared by local chefs, using fresh ingredients while practicing ultra safe meal prep, delivered to your door with contactless delivery sound? Plus, not only are you helping local chefs and their delivery team stay employed, when you try Hungry@Home 4 meals will be donated to someone in need. Explore the menu and get started here.

4.) Become a Positive Role Model

After this period of isolation and lack of social interaction, kids in our community are going to need a mentor more than ever. Big Brothers Big Sisters have an urgent need for masculine role models. Mentoring can provide a safe space for boys to be themselves, talk about the experiences of growing up, and provide a positive role model to emulate. (1 minute video explains more!)

On Thursday’s webinar, learn from existing Bigs on how being a mentor has pushed them to think more critically about how they define masculinity and how they “show up” for their Littles. All are welcome and can register here.

5.) Virtually visit the New England Aquarium

Every day at 11am, take a break and peak into the New England Aquarium! While the New England Aquarium is closed to the public, they'll continue to update their social media with live videos from aquarists, behind-the-scenes looks at the Aquarium, and even fun activities for everyone to participate in at home.

Wash your fins, and then tune in:

6.) Win Toilet Paper (and other prizes)

Virtual cocktail hours are much better when there is a theme! We’ve organized this month’s After 5 Social to be virtual, and added in a round of BINGO! Prizes range from gift cards to signed sports memorabilia, and even a 12 pack of toilet paper with delivery. Capacity is limited to 50 players. Take a break and join in on the fun here.

7.) Refinance Your Student Loans

Our parents may like to say it, but avocado toast isn’t the reason we haven’t bought homes. It’s those student loans. If you think you’re paying to high an interest rate for your student loans, look at refinancing them! LeverEdge negotiates exclusive student loan rates for their members using group buying power. So far they’ve saved students more than $26,000,000 in interest and fees. Join for free through BostonYPA to stay informed of all your options.

8.) Spell COVID in your Running App

Our favorite gyms and studios are providing us with classes on IG Live. It’s a great way to keep moving, reconnect with your 6am front row riders, and even discover new studios and sample their vibe. While we beg you to not run in a group, it’s still ok to go outside and get some fresh air. Have you seen runners run through Back Bay on the route that spells “Boston”? We’d love to see someone find the route that spells out COVID on their run recap map. First runner (or walker) to submit it wins entry to our 5K this Fall, and eternal bragging rights.

That’s all for now. We’ll be back next week with more ideas to help keep you sane. Have something to share? Let us know!
