The Healthy Consumers Guide: 1 Trick & 1 Tip.

Life is busy. We are busy. The city is busy. As a working professional, we don’t typically have a whole lot of time or energy to spare. So what do we do? We learn how to maximize our energy, how to be efficient with it and certainly where not to waste it. But with hundreds of places popping up on each corner claiming to have the next best food, drink or workout to make life better, it’s hard to know what is REALLY going to keep you healthy, energized and moving through an on-the-go lifestyle.

Don’t worry. I got you covered. Bonus; I’ll keep it short. Because, well, busy.

Trick:  Starbucks Protein Blended Cold Brew

Here's the description of the drink: "Skip the afternoon slump. This handcrafted beverage is made with plant-based protein and cold brew, then blended with almond milk, almond butter, and a banana date fruit blend for sweetness. It's part protein, part Cold Brew and all delicious.”  They certainly hit all the healthy buzzwords floating around these days, but the truth: this drink has 22g of sugar (not natural) and is packed with preservatives. The pea protein it contains can be really harsh for many to digest leaving you with that bloated belly, brain foggy, I need a nap feeling. And the banana... it’s puree and powder. Real almond butter contains two things; almonds and salt. Theirs supplements with sunflower oil. Saves Starbucks money, costs you a stomachache. Top it off with some corn starch and your afternoon slump just got a whole lot, slumpier.

Tip: Pressed Juicery Almond Milk Latte

Four ingredients make this a refreshing and filling choice for refueling on the go after a workout or for an afternoon pick-me-up. Almonds offer protein, minerals and healthy fats to keep you thinking your best. Since they have been soaked and blended, they are much easier to digest than the almonds sitting in a jar on your secretary’s desk (plus, whose hands have been in those). Dates bring fiber, helping your digestion and serve as a natural sweetener. Natural vanilla bean (no powder here!) adds flavor and the sea salt brings everything together. To dress it up and get all fancy,  add in a shot of espresso or matcha green tea powder. Both of which, they conveniently offer in house. Sip and savor to continue winning your day.
